seekonk speedway 2024 SPORTSMAN season PREVIEW

Known as one of the most exciting divisions in short-track racing in New England, the Seekonk Speedway Sportsman drivers are anxious to hit the track for the first time in 2024.


Adam Pettey dominated the Sportsman division last year, capturing multiple wins and leading the points for most of the season. He is a clear threat to contend for the title, but he needs to go through the defending champion first. Steve Axon returned to the top of the division for the first time in a decade last season. He will be looking to get back to Victory Lane, as his major goal is to win more races, and see what happens with the points.

Pettey is looking to do what he did last year again - but also come away with the championship at the end of the busy schedule driving the No. 57.


Colby Lambert had success last year driving the No. 54 and is back for another year in the Sportsman class. He’s joined this year by his brother, Jeremy, a former Fast Friday Pure Stock champion, who has registered car No. 15 for competition.

Tyler Almeida is a graduate of Seekonk’s Fast Friday program and has been improving consistently in the Sportsman. It’s likely 2024 may bring his first checkered flag. Former division champion Sparky Arsenault has a fresh look for 2024 and looks to get on the track often in the No. 96. Former Fast Friday Pure Stock champion Doug Benoit will be back in the No. 12, looking to get to Victory Lane himself. 


Fans can look out for the always exciting Ed Perry, Chris Rioux, Randy Moretti and Jimmy “Pepe” Silvia throughout the year. Moving up from the Pure Stocks is Nick Brightman, while Dane Saritelli and Paul Williams are also names to watch.


Although he’s also registered in the Pro Stocks, look for Chris Gomes to take laps at some point in his Sportsman return. Josh Hedges, a former Late Model winner, will also contest a partial schedule.



Cody Tripp ended up running a part-time schedule last year, but mechanical failures sidelined him more often than not. He will be coming back to run at least some races this year, looking to score his first career win.


Some other names to watch include Don Perry, Nick Wood, Mark Healy and more. 


The 2024 season opens for Seekonk’s Sportsman on Sunday, May 5 at 2 p.m. The season includes events from May through September. The championship night for the Pro Stocks will be Saturday, September 28.
