SEEKONK, Mass. — The youth of Seekonk Speedway competition is alive and well - along with some established drivers moving into other divisions and pouncing on the opportunity. Through two NASCAR Saturday and two Fast Friday events in 2024, Seekonk Speedway has welcomed nine different first-time winners into the record books in their respective divisions. Liam Monaghan won in the ultra-competitive East Coast Towing Spectator Drag Series on May 11 beating top contender Matt Desrosiers. On NASCAR Saturday, June 1, Tim Bolger Jr. parked his Chaz Auto Body Sport Truck in Victory lane for the first time, as a former Fast Friday Sport 4 competitor. Last Friday night, May 31, in week two of the Fast Friday season, three more first-time feature winners added their names to the list in their respective divisions. In the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandits, driving the No. 99 for Helger’s Racing, Mason Silva rocketed to his first career win. In the Outlaws, it was Brody Wakefield capturing his first Seekonk victory, driving away from his competitors. In the Helger’s Pure Stocks, Brent Robidoux used the outside lane to pass for the lead and rolled away to his first career victory in just his second Pure Stock start. Back on Fast Friday opening night, May 24, Luka Dib also piloted his No. 13 to his first career win in the Bandolero Bandits, and Mike Hanafin was in the winner’s circle for the first time in his Bandolero Outlaw career. Matt Pion captured his first Sport 4 win on opening night as well. During the opener of the NASCAR Saturday season on May 11, Josh Hedges - a former Sport Truck champion and Late Model winner - added a Helger’s Sportsman trophy to his resume. “I thought it would take a while (to get my first win),” Brent Robidoux, a former winner in the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero divisions, said after his first Pure Stock win. “At the beginning of the year, I didn’t even know if I was going to be driving this year. It was rough starting sixth and I knew we had some work to do, but it was some clean racing. I love it. I was just telling myself to bring it home.” A few young rising stars were rather speechless after winning. “This is really awesome - we came out from the first race in third - and we came back this week and came out on top - it’s amazing,” Wakefield said. “I’m just out of words,” Mason Silva said. With Fast Friday often producing the future stars of NASCAR Saturday at Seekonk Speedway, and some of Seekonk’s top Saturday drivers moving on to compete in higher ranks in short-track or even National Series racing, the 2024 season is once again showing Seekonk Speedway has such a stable group of rising stars that fans love to watch compete weekly. Seekonk Speedway’s Fast Friday divisions will return to the track on Friday, June 7, for another night of racing. NASCAR Saturday on June 8 includes the return of the American-Canadian Tour for the Spring Green 124, along with the Pro Stocks, Sportsman and Sport Trucks.
