SEEKONK, Mass. — Matt Swanson added his name to a historic list on Wednesday night, June 28 at Seekonk Speedway. Swanson picked up his first career Seekonk Modified win and his first Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series win in the Open Wheel Wednesday 100, worth $10,000.
Swanson used a jingle between leaders Sammy Rameau and Jake Johnson to take advantage and grab the top spot on lap 74 and never look back. He pulled away over the final laps, posting his fastest lap of the race on lap 84 en route to the big money victory. Driving for Gary Casella, Swanson added another winner to the list of the Open Wheel Wednesday Modified Madness. Started in 2005, only Doug Coby (three) and Matt Hirschman (five) are multiple time winners of the event. Austin Beers finished second and Matt Hirschman third. Richard Savary and six-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Doug Coby finished fourth and fifth. Rising star Ryan Doucette, Les Hinckley, Johnson, Joey Cipriano and Woody Pitkat finished in positions six through 10. The Open Wheel Modifieds joined the 350 SMAC Supermodifieds and NEMA Lites for a full card of racing on Wednesday night.
