It’s been quite the year for Jake Trainor so far in 2023. Trainor picked up a big victory during the Little 500 in Indianapolis on Memorial Day weekend and visited Seekonk Speedway for the first time this year during Open Wheel Wednesday on June 28.
After 50 laps, Trainor picked up the victory in the NEMA Lite feature race on a night where the track also hosted Modifieds and Supermodifieds. Trainor passed Paul Scally for the lead on lap 32 and never looked back to pick up the win. Scally followed in second spot, with PJ Stergios wrapping the podium in third. The race was slowed quickly after Mike Pernisiglio flipped in turn three. The race was also slowed when oil was dropped all around the third-mile and required a lengthy delay. Once the race got going, the field settled out and Trainor took control. Joey Bailey was fourth and Todd Bertrand rounded out the top-five. Avery Stoehr, Ben Mikitarian, Kyle Valeri, Alby Ovitt and Chase Locke finished the top-10. The NEMA Lites will return to Seekonk Speedway during a Saturday night showdown on Saturday, July 15 for the NEMA Boston Louie Seymour Memorial along with the NEMA Midgets, Pro Stocks and Late Models.
