SEEKONK, Mass. — In front of a packed house with the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour in town, Jacob “Rowdy” Burns wasn’t going to be denied in the 45-lap opener of the Everett’s Auto Parts Triple Crown Series on Saturday. Burns used the bottom, the middle, and the outside grooves — all at different times — to win the second race of the Late Model season on NASCAR Saturday.
The final race that went out before the Whelen Modified Tour J&R Precast 150, the Late Models proved once again why they are one of the most exciting divisions in all of New England. Burns had to hold off challenges from veteran Charlie Rose over the second half of the race, along with David Darling, Luke Lebrun and others. But, when it mattered most, it was Burns on top. Rose finished second, with Lebrun and Darling crossing the line closely battling for third and fourth. Richie Murray and Connor Souza similarly battled right down to the line, with Murray in fifth and Souza sixth at the checkered flag. Bobby Pelland III was seventh, followed by Chase Belcher, Vinnie Arrenegado and Mike Brightman. The Late Models will be back on track for 30 laps on Saturday, June 15. They will have the week off on Saturday, June 8, when the American-Canadian Tour is in town for the Spring Green 124. Many of the Seekonk Late Model stars will compete in the ACT feature.
