Meeting Goals: American-Canadian Tour Increases to $5,000-to-Win Base Purse for All Events1/31/2024 The American-Canadian Tour has increased the base purse for the iconic tour, meaning every ACT event will be at least $5,000 to win and $500 to start. This is the latest step in a 156% increase in rewards ACT owners Cris Michaud and Pat Malone have made since 2017. (Erik Tavares photo)>> Barre, VT — A goal seven years in the making has come to fruition. Since purchasing the American-Canadian Tour at the end of the 2017 season, Cris Michaud and Pat Malone have worked diligently over the past six seasons to finalize one goal above all others: building up event purses and rewarding the racers. Now, that time has come. ACT Officials announced today that starting in 2024 all American-Canadian Tour purses will be at least $5,000 to win and $500 to start. The American-Canadian Tour, since adapting to the current Late Model program, saw regular purses of $2,000 to win and $400 to start over the past decades leading to Michaud and Malone’s purchase of the Tour from iconic founder Tom Curley. The duo immediately increased the ACT championship point fund by $10,000 for full-time competitors and Rookie of the Year chasers, setting a path for increasing monetary rewards for the traveling international stars. In the past several years the two have steadily increased ACT base purses, most recently moving to a $3,000 to win and $450 to start base that has been increased to the new $5,000 to win and $500 to start initiative. On the touring side, racers also have the Brookside Equipment Sales Southern New England Triple Crown with a separate point fund, the $100,000 Vermont Milk Bowl purse and $10,000 to win events on both sides of the US/Canadian border. ACT-sanctioned tracks have also seen increased options in the last several seasons. Michaud and Malone created the Flying Tiger Triple Crown at Thunder Road in 2017, bringing the same program to White Mountain in 2019. The successful Wall’s Ford Platinum Late Model Series at White Mountain in turn has led to a similar separate-point-fund Late Model Triple Crown at Thunder Road this upcoming season. Thunder Road Street Stocks got a first taste of Triple Crown action last season while the White Mountain Strictly Minis annually compete a $500 to win, 50-lap spectacular; this season a Father’s Day special! Since 2017, the increases in the base American-Canadian Tour event purses, ACT point fund, the Vermont Milk Bowl guaranteed purse and both Thunder Road and White Mountain track championship point funds have increased by a combined 156%. “It was one of my biggest goals to build up these purses for the racer,” said ACT managing partner Cris Michaud. “I can remember those long hauls, two or three nights of racing a week. It’s a blast, but it’s also an economic commitment. I’m very proud that we’ve built back up to this point and I hope our racers feel just as proud because they’re worth it, they’ve earned it.” For more information about the American-Canadian Tour, contact the ACT offices at (802) 244-6963, [email protected], or visit www.acttour.com. SEEKONK, Mass. — Ben Tinker couldn’t have asked for a much better night when the 350 SMAC Supermodifieds invaded Seekonk Speedway on Wednesday night. Racing as part of the annual Open Wheel Wednesday with a 40-lap race, Tinker dominated, leading all of the laps en route to a dominating victory. After Tinker took control, the race for second was on in the final laps between Brad Babb and Kenny White Jr. With a last-lap pass, Babb was able to get around and finish in the runner-up spot. White was able to finish third, followed by Dave Helliwell and Bobby Timmons III. The thrills of the small-block supermodifieds racing around the third-mile Seekonk Speedway with lap times just over 11 seconds per circuit thrilled a packed house on Wednesday. The event also included the NEMA Lites and a $10,000 to win Open Wheel Modified madness show. Scott Watts Sr., Matt Seavey, Paul Buzel, PJ Stergios and John Leonard finished the top-10 spots. For more information on Seekonk Speedway, visit SeekonkSpeedway.com and follow the track on social media for the latest news and updates. It’s been quite the year for Jake Trainor so far in 2023. Trainor picked up a big victory during the Little 500 in Indianapolis on Memorial Day weekend and visited Seekonk Speedway for the first time this year during Open Wheel Wednesday on June 28.
After 50 laps, Trainor picked up the victory in the NEMA Lite feature race on a night where the track also hosted Modifieds and Supermodifieds. Trainor passed Paul Scally for the lead on lap 32 and never looked back to pick up the win. Scally followed in second spot, with PJ Stergios wrapping the podium in third. The race was slowed quickly after Mike Pernisiglio flipped in turn three. The race was also slowed when oil was dropped all around the third-mile and required a lengthy delay. Once the race got going, the field settled out and Trainor took control. Joey Bailey was fourth and Todd Bertrand rounded out the top-five. Avery Stoehr, Ben Mikitarian, Kyle Valeri, Alby Ovitt and Chase Locke finished the top-10. The NEMA Lites will return to Seekonk Speedway during a Saturday night showdown on Saturday, July 15 for the NEMA Boston Louie Seymour Memorial along with the NEMA Midgets, Pro Stocks and Late Models. For more information on Seekonk Speedway, visit SeekonkSpeedway.com and follow the track on social media for the latest news and updates. The rumble and roar of the Modifieds, Midgets and Supermodifieds returns to Seekonk Speedway this Wednesday, June 28 as the annual Open Wheel Wednesday is ready to rock the third-mile. The track has evaluated the weather forecast and even though the morning hours have a risk for rain, the afternoon hours show clearing and some great weather for a Wednesday night short-track major event. All systems are go for Open Wheel Wednesday on June 28 at Seekonk Speedway! This special event will include a 100-lap, $10,000 to win Open Modified race, sanctioned again this year by the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series. It’s the 18th edition of the special event, with Matt Hirschman leading all active drivers into the race with five career wins, and Doug Coby not far behind with three. Hirschman has won the last two Open Wheel Wednesday races and overall, three of the last five. His first victory came back in 2008 and he hasn’t stopped winning since. The Pennsylvania native is just a few weeks off his dominating NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour performance at Seekonk on June 10, where he won the pole, led all the laps and scored the impressive win. If someone is going to pocket $10,000, they will likely need to run through the No. 60. Coby will be back to chase the crown in the Mayhew Tools No. 10, the second outing of the year for his personal race team. He’s joined by former event winners Kirk Alexander (76), Richard Savary (99), Ron Silk (16) and Ronnie Williams (50) as previous winners of the race entered to compete. As of writing of this story, nearly 30 drivers have entered to compete. Seekonk fans will be familiar with names like Jake Johnson, a two-time Legends Cars Seekonk champion, Chase Dowling, Les Hinckley, Chris Pasteryak and others. The 100-lap race will conclude the night on Open Wheel Wednesday with a full card of racing planned just before it. The NEMA Lites and 350 SMAC Supermodifieds are also back in town. The NEMA Lites, a division that tours throughout New England during the season, is making their first of two trips to Seekonk coming up in the next few weeks. They will be back for the Saturday, July 15 show as part of the Boston Louie Seymour Memorial Classic night along with a few NASCAR divisions. In their early 2023 season, names like Abby Ovitt, Danny Cugini, Avery Stoehr and others are off to strong starts. The NEMA Lites race is set for 50 laps around the third-mile. Fans can expect to see Jake Trainor as one of the many NEMA drivers at the track on Wednesday night. At just 18-years-old, Jake Trainor is coming off a major victory in the Little 500 in Indianapolis back on Memorial Day weekend. From Medway, Massachusetts, this local contender is quickly making a name for himself. His Little 500 victory also marked the first triumph in the major event for car owner Matt Seymour. “This is my second start in a sprint car and my first time at Anderson,” said Trainor in Victory Lane that night. “I just did everything I felt like I could have done to prepare for this race and I still felt like I was underprepared coming into it. don’t even know what to say. I’m so lost for words.” This rising star will compete in the Seymour Racing No. 29 entry, a car that is no stranger to Victory lane at Seekonk Speedway. With the SMAC Tour heading back to Seekonk, they will be just about getting their season underway, just like Seekonk, due to Mother Nature. The winged warriors return to the Action Track of the East will produce high-speed racing fans will not want to miss. Justin Bonsignore Heads To Seekonk For Saturday Night Showdown
A Saturday night short-track showdown in Massachusetts is up next for Justin Bonsignore and the Ken Massa Motorsports team. This Saturday night, June 10, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour heads to Seekonk Speedway for the Seekonk 150 – race six of the 19-event 2023 calendar. Bonsignore enters the race with one win in the first five races of the season – at Riverhead Raceway – but the three-time series champion has top-10 finishes in all events and top-fives in all but one. Heading to Seekonk, a place where Bonsignore won in 2018, the New York native has a high amount of confidence. Seekonk recently paved the corners on both ends of the third-mile, adding yet another element to Saturday’s race. No Modifieds have competed in a race on the surface yet in competition this season, but the track has been running weekly events and the racing has been some of the best the track has seen. “Definitely excited to get to Seekonk and try the new pavement and see how it impacted the track,” Bonsignore said. “We’ve had a pretty consistent season so far, but we are looking to get back to Victory Lane again with our Phoenix Communications team. We’re going to be six races into the year and the summer stretch is about to get underway. It’s going to be a busy and important time for our team.” A full day of racing at Seekonk Speedway also includes their weekly Sport Trucks, Sportsman and Late Models, all with extra-distance races. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will practice from 3-4 p.m., with qualifying at 5:30 p.m., and the 150-lap at 8 p.m. Tickets are available in advance at SeekonkSpeedway.com and will also be available at the track on race day. For those who can’t make it, FloRacing.TV will also have live coverage at 8 p.m. For more information on three-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Justin Bonsignore and his Kenneth Massa Motorsports team, visit JustinBonsignore.com and follow his Athlete page on Facebook for the latest updates. SEEKONK, Mass. — Mother Nature didn’t come to play on Saturday night at Seekonk Speedway, forcing track officials to postpone the racing card including the Spring Green 123 for the American-Canadian Tour. The ACT Tour will return to Seekonk for this special event on Saturday, August 19, alongside a full card of racing that will include the Pro Stocks, Sportsman and Sport Trucks. With the postponement of the ACT Tour event until August 19, all grandstand passes purchased for the June 3 racing card will be honored on August 19 when ACT returns. Seekonk Speedway has also announced an adjustment in the schedule for the Everett’s Auto Parts Triple Crown Series. Although the first two races in the Triple Crown for all divisions will remain unchanged, the final events for the Pro Stocks and Late Models have been moved to Saturday, August 12. The Sportsman and Trucks Triple Crown finale remains on August 19 as part of Everett’s Auto Parts weekend at the track. The Pro Stock race on August 19 will be a normal 40-lap feature. “These adjustments to our schedule will just add even more excitement to race night on August 12,” Ed St. Germain of Seekonk Speedway said. “With some of our Late Model contenders racing with the ACT Tour, we will give them the opportunity to do that and leave them off the August 19 schedule. We appreciate everyone working through these types of adjustments with the Speedway.” -The Scully Memorial 55 for the Pro Stocks has been rescheduled to Saturday, July 15, a night that will also include the prestigious Boston Louie with NEMA Lites and NEMA Midgets along with the Late Models. Pit passes purchased for the June 3 event will be honored either this Saturday, June 10 or August 19. For those who chose to use them this Saturday, June 10, the track will cover the cost of the added value for the Tour pit pass and make it an even swap. Wristbands must be turned in to receive a new band. Seekonk Speedway returns to Saturday night short-track racing on Saturday, June 10, with a show headlined by the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Seekonk 150. The Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Sportsman, Chaz Auto Body Sport Trucks and Late Models will also all compete in the first round of their Everetts Auto parts Triple Crown.
