ROSE, LASCUOLA, SERYDYNSKI AND HELGER OPEN NASCAR PLAYOFFS WITH VICTORIES

SEEKONK, Mass. — The Sunoco Drive For The Cup opened with four championship contenders making major statements during NASCAR Saturday racing on August 29 at Seekonk Speedway.

Charlie Rose captured a wild Late Model thriller, Nick Lascuola dominated the Pro Stock main event, Scott Serydynski Jr. completed a dramatic final-lap pass in the Sportsman and Richie Helger Jr. charged through the field to win the Sport Truck feature.

With every position carrying championship implications, the opening round kept fans on the edge of their seats throughout an action-packed night at the Action Track of the East.

CHARLIE ROSE WINS WILD LATE MODEL PLAYOFF OPENER

Charlie Rose returned to Victory Lane for the second consecutive week, capturing a wild Late Model feature in the opening round of the Sunoco Drive For The Cup.

Rose worked his way to the lead early and appeared to be in full control before a caution slowed the action. An emergency in the pit area created an extended delay, allowing the drivers to exit their cars before the race resumed.

Once racing continued, the battle came down to three Late Model veterans: Rose, Jacob Burns and Chase Belcher.

Burns passed Rose for the lead, but Rose quickly fought back underneath him. The two raced hard and made contact before settling into a thrilling fight for the victory. As the field took the white flag, Burns appeared to be on his way to the win.

Belcher put everything on the line with a three-wide move entering turn three on the final lap. Rose slid up the track, contact followed between Rose and Burns, and Rose slid across the finish line to capture the victory in dramatic fashion.

Burns finished second, followed by Belcher in third. Fellow playoff contenders Ryan Vanasse Jr. and Richie Murray completed the top five.

NICK LASCUOLA DOMINATES PRO STOCK PLAYOFF OPENER

Nick Lascuola delivered a timely drive to the front in the Pro Stock feature, taking the lead early and holding off nine-time Seekonk Speedway champion Dave Darling to secure the opening-round victory.

Lascuola passed Branden Dion for the top spot during the early laps, but a flurry of cautions repeatedly slowed the action. Each time the green flag returned, Lascuola maintained control and made it clear he would be difficult to beat.

Darling worked his way toward the front during the second half of the race and challenged Lascuola on multiple restarts. However, Lascuola refused to surrender the lead and drove to a crucial playoff victory.

Darling settled for second, with Dylan Estrella finishing third. Kenny Spencer and Colbey Fournier rounded out the top five. Playoff contenders Vinnie Arrenegado and Mike Brightman finished sixth and eighth, respectively.

SCOTT SERYDYNSKI JR. EDGES RYAN HEDGES IN SPORTSMAN THRILLER

The Sportsman feature came down to the final few feet, with playoff contender Scott Serydynski Jr. using the outside lane to edge Ryan Hedges at the finish line.

The opening round of the playoffs attracted a strong field of 28 Sportsman, with 26 cars taking the green flag for the 25-lap feature. Serydynski started deep in the field, while Hedges passed Sparky Arsenault for the early lead and began to pull away.

Serydynski steadily worked his way through traffic, using several timely cautions to close the gap. He eventually caught Hedges and moved to the outside, setting up a side-by-side battle over the final four laps.

Hedges held the advantage when the white flag waved, but Serydynski stayed committed to the outside. He powered off turn four on the final lap and edged Hedges at the stripe to capture the victory.

The dramatic outside pass also earned Serydynski a $500 bonus as part of Seekonk Speedway’s program rewarding drivers who make an outside pass for the lead on the final lap.

Hedges finished second, followed by Adam Pettey, Jaime Robbins and playoff contender Randy Moretti. Serydynski and Moretti were the only two Sunoco Drive For The Cup contenders to finish inside the top five.

RICHIE HELGER JR. CHARGES THROUGH THE PACK TO WIN SPORT TRUCK FEATURE

Richie Helger Jr. picked the perfect time to capture the second Sport Truck victory of his career, charging from seventh to win the opening round of the Sunoco Drive For The Cup.

Helger quickly worked his way through the field and moved into second shortly after the halfway point of the 25-lap feature. A late restart gave him an opportunity to battle rookie Jordan Duquette for the lead, and Helger took full advantage.

The playoff contender moved to the front and drove away during the closing laps, securing his second victory of the season and his first since May.

Duquette earned a career-best second-place finish, while playoff contender Jake Vanada crossed the line third. Fellow championship contenders Ethan Heilborn and Scott Cestodio completed the top five.

The opening round delivered four memorable races and four victories for Sunoco Drive For The Cup contenders. With the championship pressure already building, NASCAR Saturday’s title battles are only getting started at Seekonk Speedway.
