Seekonk Speedway To Open 81st Season of Short-Track Racing With Jam Packed Weekend May 2nd & 3rd

SEEKONK, Mass. — After a long winter, one filled with some of the largest snow totals in the last decade, Seekonk Speedway is dried out and ready to open the 81st season of short-track racing at the Action Track of the East this weekend.

Sunday, May 3, marks opening day for all four NASCAR Local Racing Series divisions, competing for the first checkered flags of the season. One day prior, the annual Classic Car Show in the front parking lot, joined by the final test and tune session NASCAR divisions, continues a long-standing tradition alongside the season-opener.

Saturday’s Classic Car Show runs from 8-1 p.m., headlined by music by DJ Cruising Bruce, judging and prizes for vehicles who enter. To enter, cars should arrive early - as only the first 200 cars will be judged. That portion of the show begins at 10AM, but, cars must be parked by 11AM, to be eligible. As usual, the Classic Car Show is free for fans, and you will also be able to enter the grandstands free to catch NASCAR division practice. The annual Burn Out Drags will also take place on track at 1 p.m.

NASCAR practice on Saturday begins at 12PM and rolls until 5PM. This will be the final tune-up for teams to get ready for Sunday’s opening day. The schedule for Sunday begins with the pits opening at 9 a.m., practice beginning at 11 a.m., and the Pro Stock time trials at 1 p.m. The first green flag for heat racing will drop at 2 p.m.

The Pro Stocks, Late Models, Sportsman and Sport Trucks will all open their seasons Sunday. Championship storylines will begin, while drivers look to open the year in Victory Lane.

Early favorites in the Pro Stocks are defending and nine-time champion David Darling, Dylan Estrella, Mike Brightman, Vinnie Arrenegado, Mark Jenison, Nick Lascuola and others. The Late Model field will chase reigning champion Charlie Rose, along with names like Chase Belcher, Richie Murray, Andrew Gomes, Mark Jenison and many rookies, rising stars and veterans.

The Sportsman are back for more three-wide excitement, with a stacked field filled with storylines ready for opening day. Although names like Colby Lambert, Jeremy Lambert and Adam Pettey have moved on from full-time action, their move will allow others to likely capture their first career win throughout the year. The Sportsman Rookie of the Year battle is also expected to be tight, with names like defending Fast Friday Pure Stock champion Matt Talbot, Kent Aspden, Mike Hanafin and others ready to chase it.

In the Sport Trucks, with Rick Martin moving on, you could pick the favorite for the season out of a hat. Jake Vanada was dominant at times last year and captured his first career title. He will be closely followed by Tim Bolger Jr., Dane Saritelli, former champions Mike Duarte and Mike Cavallaro, and many others. The rookie battle in the Truck includes Bandolero standout Jordan Duquette, former Legends Cars champion Richie Helger Jr., Danny Massa and others.

Saturday’s action begins with the Classic Car Show at 8 a.m., with NASCAR practice getting underway at 12 p.m. The Burn Out Drags will occur on track at 1 p.m., followed by the resumption of NASCAR practice until 5 p.m. Sunday’s competitive racing begins with Pro Stock time trials at 1 p.m., followed by heat racing at 2 p.m.
