SEEKONK, Mass. — Richie Johnson won the Sport 4 championship last season at Seekonk Speedway, and decided it was time to make the move up to the Pure Stocks for the new year. After one race, it looks like he is going to be a force to be reckoned with.
The Rookie Wins: Johnson took the top spot from Crystal Murray early in the race and never looked back, but it wasn’t easy. He had to hold off top contender Ethan Souza over the final laps, with Souza hanging on the rear bumper trying to find a way around. In the end, Johnson took the checkered flag in his first Pure Stock race, with Souza crossing right behind him in second, and Bobby Bettencourt III opening with a strong run in third.
The Rest of the Contenders: Zachary Keith had a solid effort to open his season, as the sophomore contender finished fourth. Brent Robidoux, the division dominator of the last two years, finished fifth on opening night. They were followed by Peter Bleau, Justin Menard, Don Courtemanche and Bryson Robidoux.
The Pure Stocks will be back on the track for race two of their season on Friday, June 5.
