SEEKONK, Mass. — A tough start to the season for Jacob Burns in week one turned around quickly, as Burns returned to Victory Lane in the Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars opener of the Everett’s Auto Parts Triple Crown Friday night.
The Story: Jacob Burns raced Isaiah Newcomb for the top spot for much of Friday’s 30-lap showdown, but when Newcomb went to throw a cross-over move on Burns late, contact from behind sent Newcomb spinning. That left a new challenger, Friday night High School graduate and former champion Richie Helger Jr. to give Burns a run for the money in the final laps. Burns was able to get away on the restart to get back to Victory Lane.
The Top Finishers: After missing practice and qualifying to graduate, Helger started last and charged through to finish in second. Brody Wakefield was back on the podium with a strong third, while Stephen Bowden scored a career best fourth-place finish. Chase Silvia was right there behind them to finish the top-five.
The Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars will be back on the track on Friday, June 12, for their third race of the season.
