PLAYOFF BATTLES: With One Week Down, Some NASCAR Saturday Top Contenders Outside Looking In

SEEKONK, Mass. — With round one complete in the Sunoco Drive For The Cup at Seekonk Speedway, the playoff fields of six in each NASCAR Saturday division have two more races before the Final Four drivers are set. 


After round one, all four divisions have some surprises currently outside the cutoff.


In the Pro Stocks, regular season points leader Vinnie Arrenegado currently leads the charge with seven points. Dylan Estrella has 6, then Mike Brightman with 5 and Bobby Pelland III with three. Those are currently the four drivers who would advance. After that, defending and two-time champion Mark Jenison has two points and Colbey Fournier, a multiple-time winner this season, has one point. Heading for the next two weeks, Jenison and Fournier have some work to do.

In the Late Models, Charlie Rose shows the way with eight points, including his three from the bonus points from the regular season, and 5 from a second-place finish in the first race of the playoffs. With his feature win last Saturday, Jacob “Rowdy” Burns is second with six points, while Chase Belcher (4) and Richie Murray (3) currently hold the Final Four spots. Right now, Luke Lebrun and former champion Mark Jenison are outside the cutoff with 2 and 1 points, respectively.

The Helger’s Sportsman has one driver clearly showing the way. With the three bonus points from the regular season and the six from his feature win in round one, Colby Lambert has the most points of any playoff driver at Seekonk Speedway with nine. He leads the charge over former Fast Friday Pure Stock champion Doug Benoit (5), Scott Serydynski Jr (4) and Josh Hedges (3). Currently on the outside looking in, Tyler Almeida (2) and Adam Pettey (1) will have some work to do in order to get back in.

The Chaz’s Auto Body Sport Truck field is chasing regular season top contender Mike Duarte (6) and Rick Martin (6), who are tied for the top spot. Tim Bolger Jr. with 5 is up next, followed by Jake Vanada, currently in the Final Four spot in fourth, with 4 points. Currently outside looking in, Amy Arsenault has two points and Mike Cavallaro one.
