SEEKONK, Mass. — As the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series divisions hit the end of July this weekend at Seekonk Speedway, only four races remain before the field is set for the Sunoco Drive For The Cup. In fact, for the Pro Stocks, who are off this weekend, only three races remain before deciding the field. New for 2024, the Sunoco Drive For The Cup Playoffs only include the top-six drivers in each division in the championship standings at the end of August. The Chaz’s Sport Trucks, Helger’s Sportsman and Late Models have four scheduled events before the field is set. One of them will be knocked off for them this Saturday night. The Chaz’s Auto Body Sport Truck battle has Mike Cavallaro ahead of Darryl Church by just six points at the cutline. Only nine points back in eighth is DJ Thibeault, while Marissa Morgan is just 16 points back in ninth. Rounding out the top-10, Tom Scully III is only 26 points behind. Drivers earn two points per position in feature racing and 5-4-3-2-1 from first to fifth in qualifying heats. With still a chunk of races to go, deciding the final spot appears it will go right down to the wire.
In the Late Models, Richie Murray’s win last week jumped him back into safe ground in fourth, but not by much. Murray has 255 points, while Chase Belcher has 253 and Mark Jenison, holding the final spot, has 249. Just outside, Connor Souza is 21 points back. Bobby Pelland III is 24 points back himself in eighth. It looks like between these drivers, the final spots will be filled. Who makes up ground this week?
The Helger’s Sportsman race is also rather tight between positions five through nine. Tyler Almeida had a rough week last week, but with 225 points, is still in fifth. Doug Benoit currently holds the final spot with 219. Behind him, it’s super tight. Randy Moretti is just 14 points out, while Jeremy Lambert is just 15 back. Jimmy “Pepe” Silvia in ninth is only 18 points out. As the Sportsman continue to showcase some of the best racing in New England, three and even four-wide, this one is definitely going to the wire.
Off this week, the Pro Stock battle looks a little bit more clear. Colbey Fournier currently sits in the final spot, 26 points ahead of the cutline. Behind him, Jeramee Lillie will have some work to do if he wants to charge in. Dick Benoit, a one-time feature winner this season, is also 33 points out. Is the Pro Stock field already set or will someone surprise us?
The Sportsman, Trucks and Late Models will join the Pro All Star Series Bay State Summer Classic 150 for another night at the Action Track of the East on Saturday, July 27.
