SEEKONK, Mass. — Jacob “Rowdy” Burns opened his bid for his first career Late Model championship in a big way on Saturday night at Seekonk Speedway. Burns got around Charlie Rose in the second half of the 30-lap Sunoco Drive For The Cup playoff opener, then held off Rose and some other hard chargers to win the playoffs round one feature event. With the win, Burns is off to a strong start in his attempt to capture the crown in the No. 30. Rose, who led the regular season point standings, finished second in the first playoff event. They were followed across the line by three non-playoff cars - Andrew Gomes, Connor Souza and Nathan Tracy in third, fourth and fifth. Playoff contenders Chase Belcher, Richie Murray, Luke Lebrun and Mark Jenison followed, while Brittany Campbell rounded out the top-10. At the end of the first round of the playoffs, Rose, Burns, Belcher and Murray currently hold the Final Four spots. The Late Models will return to the track for round two of the Sunoco Drive For The Cup on Saturday, September 14, another 30-lap feature.
