SEEKONK, Mass. — Adding to what had already been a great night of Fast Friday racing, Jared Cordeira parked his Pure Stock in Victory Lane on August 11 at Seekonk Speedway. In the Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Pure Stocks, Cordeira got to the lead just before halfway, but then had to hold off a hard charge in the final laps to seal his first win of the season. Mike Henriques raced his way up to second and hounded the back bumper of Cordeira for the lead for many of the final laps. When the leaders came off turn four for the white flag, Cordeira got a little bit loose and Henriques was right there at the bottom. They raced side-by-side for the final lap and Cordeira had the edge from the outside when they found the checkered flag. Henriques was second, just .035 back at the finish. Nick Brightman finished third on the track but was penalized post-race for a technical violation. The official finish saw Greg Perry third, Sam Lincoln fourth and Ethan Souza in fifth. Brightman was aligned sixth, followed by Scott Cestodio, Timmy Ouellette, Matt Talbot and Don Courtemanche. The Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Pure Stocks will return to the track on Friday, August 18, for the finale of the Everett’s Auto Parts Triple Crown Series, set for 30 laps. SEEKONK, Mass. — Richie Johnson is no stranger to Victory Lane at Seekonk Speedway, but he’s been doing it during Thrill Shows. On Friday night, he found himself back there in a different form, winning his first career race in the Sport 4 division at the third-mile. Johnson has come close at times during the 2023 season, showing consistent speed. But Friday, it was his time. Johnson passed Henry Lavallee for the lead and then never looked back to pick up the win in the 25-lap feature. Jarrod Freitas, a three-time season winner, finished in second, with Lavallee holding on to grab the third spot at the finish. Taylor Bowser and Mikey LeFort followed in fourth and fifth. Crystal Murray, Justin Leduc, Sam Mattera, Jacob Budznya and Christine Cavallaro finished out the top-10. The Sport 4’s will return to the track on Friday, August 18, for the finale of the Everett’s Auto Parts Triple Crown Series, set for 30 laps. SEEKONK, Mass. — Nick Uhrig Jr. is having his own breakout year in the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandits at Seekonk Speedway. Driving the No. 11, Uhrig has picked up his first career win, and now his second career win during the 2023 season. Friday night, he had a side-by-side battle with Parker Davis for the second straight week to decide the 15-lap feature. The two raced clean, again, barely even getting close enough to sniff making contact. Davis picked up the win a week ago in the battle, this time, it was Uhrig. He held off Davis and defending champion Sam Macedo to score the feature win. Mason Silva led laps early and finished fourth, followed by Mike Hanafin in fifth. Luka Dib, Carl Satterlund Jr., Jayden Sprague, Alya Martin and David Bernier finished out the top-10 spots at the finish. The Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandits will return to the track on Friday, August 18, for the finale of the Everett’s Auto Parts Triple Crown Series, set for 15 laps. He began working with Seekonk’s youth (ages 8-16), teaching them the ropes of racing. He serves as their mentor and assists them with learning the track, cars and race craft. He also assists in teaching sportsmanship and how to be a positive member of the community. Often, Seekonk’s youth racers make their mark in the Friday divisions & end up racing on NASCAR Saturdays and on touring series, regionally and nationally. The impact Len Ellis has on our future NASCAR stars at is immeasurable. Ellis is one of the most genuine people in the pit area - always looking for ways to help the competitors & see the track thrive. He enjoys the aspects of short-track racing Seekonk Speedway has to offer. Len Ellis is Seekonk Speedway’s home track hero. From driver to official, to mentor, to friend, Ellis is a true Seekonk Speedway community member, and the track would not be where it is today without him. The month of August for NASCAR Saturday divisions opens up this Saturday, August 12, with a big night of racing. The Pro Stocks and Late Models have extra-distance action with the finale of their Everett’s Triple Crown, set for 60 laps for the Pro Stocks and 45 laps for the Late Models. The NASCAR divisions battle is on towards the Sunoco Drive For The Cup in September, with the top-eight drivers in each division at the end of August set to battle for the championship. Just three races remain for the Pro Stocks, Sportsman and Sport Trucks, but it’s just two for the Late Models, as the ACT Tour invades on August 19 and the local division will have the night off. Let’s take a look at the current standings with who is close to being in, or out, heading into the final few weeks before the playoff field is set. PRO STOCKS The Pro Stocks only have three scheduled events left before the playoffs - August 12, 19 and 26. Dylan Estrella and David Darling lead the standings, with Mike Brightman not far behind. The big question here is will Darling run any more races except this Saturday? He was only planning a part-time schedule for extra-distance events. Darling will be back to chase this title for the Evetett's Triple Crown, but will he come back on August 19 and August 26 for regular events? If he doesn’t, that will shake things up, as he likely would fall out of the top-eight. Or does his current 50-point gap feel comfortable enough to stay in? Tough one to say right now! Defending champion Mark Jenison is fourth, with Rick Martin fifth and Bobby Pelland only one point behind him in sixth. Dick Benoit is seventh, 14 points ahead of Tom Scully Jr., who holds the final spot right now. It’s Rookie contender Mike Rotondo the first driver out by 13 points in ninth and Kevin Casper behind by 33 points. The big losers last time out were Kenny Spencer and Colbey Fournier, who sit 13th and 15th now after missing the race due to damages from the race prior. Even if they were to come back this week, they are going to have trouble getting back in the top-eight with not enough races left. The story here is going to be whether or not Darling runs the two races at the end of August — and even if he doesn’t — can someone knock him out? LATE MODELS Jacob Burns, Luke LeBrun, Vinnie Arrenegado and defending champion Mark Jenison lead the Late Model standings and appear comfortable heading for the stretch run and the final two events before the playoffs. All but Jenison has won multiple times this season. Chase Belcher isn’t far behind in fifth and leads over the cut by over 50 points, so he looks good. Charlie Rose is sixth, with a 23 point lead on the cut, while Bill Goodrow is just one point ahead of Tyler Tomassi, who holds the final spot. Richie Murray is just outside, but just seven points back after missing one event. Connor Souza is 10th right now, only 15 points behind Tomassi. Scott Serydynski Jr. isn’t far behind either in 11th, just 20 points from the cut. If the season shakes out the way it has been going, it looks like the top-six are comfortable and everyone from Goodrow to Serydynski is battling for the final two spots. Look out - the Late Models are bringing this right down to the final laps before deciding who is in and out! SPORTSMAN Off his recent win, Adam Pettey is comfortably at the top of the Sportsman standings. He’s ahead of former champions Chad Baxter and Steve Axon, who also seem comfortable. Colby Lambert and defending champion Craig Pianka are fourth and fifth. Barring trouble, these five will advance to the playoffs. Randy Moretti is sixth with one win, and is ahead of the final spot by 28 points. Ryan Lineham is seventh, but only three points up on Don Perry for the final spot. Jimmy “Pepe “Silvia is first driver out, 17 points back with Tyler Almeida 21 points out and Ed Perry 23 out. As of now, it looks like it might be a race between 11 drivers for eight spots. Buckle up, one of the most exciting divisions in New England is sure to make this one tight! SPORT TRUCKS Like the other divisions, it seems the Sport Trucks have some drivers at the top who should feel good. Rick Martin, the defending champion, just picked up his first season win and leads Brittany Campbell and Jake Vanada, two drivers who have two wins on the season. Mike Duarte, without a win, is comfortably in fourth. Amy Arsenault is fifth with Darryl Church sixth. Church right now is 20 points up on the final spot. Mike Cavallaro is on a hot streak with a win and a second in his last two races and is just 14 points up on Bobby Tripp, who holds the final spot. Tripp leads Tom Scully III by just 17 points, but did extend his gap this past week. Looks like Scully III and Tripp may battle for the final spot, unless someone behind them can find some extra speed in the final three weeks to make a push. You are not going to want to miss the final three NASCAR Saturday’s before the Sunoco Drive For The Cup begins in September! Buy tickets for all Seekonk Speedway events today at SeekonkSpeedway.com and follow the track on social media for the latest news and updates. It’s getting down to the time we have all been waiting for. The fields are almost set for September’s Sunoco Drive For The Cup for all divisions, both on Fast Friday and NASCAR Saturday. With just three races remaining for both nights, it’s going to get wild to decide who is in, and who is out.
On Fast Friday, most of the divisions have a tight battle to see who will advance. Let’s take a deeper look heading into the August 11 events at Seekonk Speedway. ————-- BANDOLERO BANDITS The Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandit field has five contenders inside the top-five who feel safe heading for the final three weeks. In both Bandolero divisions, only six drivers will make it. Nick Uhrig Jr., Sam Macedo, Parker Davis, Mike Hanafin and Mason Silva are going to advance to the playoffs as long as they show up to the track for the next three weeks. Behind them, Ryder Aguiar currently holds the final spot over Carl Satterlund Jr. by 46 points. With drivers earning two points per position, and the field weekly around 10 or less cars in the Bandits, it looks like Satterlund’s chances of making it are slim. Anything can happen, but it’s likely going to be Uhrig, Macedo, Davis, Hanafin, Silva and Aguiar battling for the championship in September. ————-- BANDOLERO OUTLAWS Yet another feature win for Ryan Vanasse Jr. in the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Outlaws all but guarantees him as the favorite heading into September’s playoff format. With Collin Vanasse, Bryson Robidoux, Brent Robidoux and Andrew Gomes following him in positions two through five, these drivers seem to be in good shape. Gomes holds an advantage of nearly 40 points ahead of the cutline. Expect these five to be locked in. Zachary Keith jumped over Dylan Calabro after last week's 15-lap feature, now leading in the final spot by six points. Calabro hasn’t shown the consistency he will need to beat Keith straight out on the track, but that doesn’t mean something can’t change. With racing tight on the track, and two points per position, these drivers are now separated by just three spots going to the final three races. RJ Murphy is next up in eighth, but is over 40 points out of sixth, and will likely need someone in front of him to really struggle to get his way into the battle. ————-- SPORT 4S Jarrod Freitas has three feature wins and will be all but locked into the Sport 4 playoffs as long as he takes the green this Friday night. Crystal Murray, the defending champion, and Henry Lavallee are second and third, along with Richie Johnson in fourth. These four drivers are in great shape to advance. Taylor Bowser is in fifth, rather comfortable, 26 points ahead. Her consistency so far this season shows that she should be good when it comes to the cutline, but you never know. From sixth on back, the races are on. Daniel Hayes and Christine Cavallaro are tied in sixth and seventh, with Mikey LeFort coming off another win last week and now in the final spot, eighth. Just outside, it’s tough to say what’s going to happen. Justin Leduc is ninth and has shown quite the speed in the last few weeks, with a win and multiple podium finishes. He’s now just 22 points back of LeFort for the final spot. However, it’s likely if Leduc is going to get in, he’s going to have to jump over Cavallaro or Hayes to do it. LeFort has been fast enough to get in with multiple wins and should do enough to get in. Hayes and Cavallaro are consistent in their finishes but if Leduc has three more podiums going into the end of August, he could get in. Look out - this one is going to be tight. If you’re a betting person, put your money on LeFort staying in and Leduc finding his way in. But, anything can happen on the track - that’s why we race! 6 Daniel Hayes - 320 points 7 Christine Cavallaro - 320 points 8 Mikey LeFort - 318 points 9 Justin Leduc - 296 points PURE STOCKS You can all but lock Scott Cestodio, Ethan Souza and Danny Massa into the playoffs in the Helger’s Pure Stocks. The lowest of them, Massa in third, is 80 points up on the cutline and very comfortable. Sam Lincoln is fourth, and currently 48 points up. Mike Henriques is 36 ahead in fifth, while Jared Cordeira leads over the cutline by 30 points in the sixth position. With the way their seasons have gone and three races left, all six of these drivers should advance. But, we will see if the bad luck gremlins hit any of them. In seventh spot is Timmy Ouellette, a one-time feature winner who also probably feels rather comfortable. He leads by 24 points over Greg Perry for the final spot. Perry, a former champion, scored his first win of the season last time out. He’s jumped into eighth and leads by 16 points now for the final spot over Don Courtemanche. Josh Badach fell further back last week in ninth and is likely out of contention. Perry v.s Courtemanche looks like the battle going down the stretch. Perry seems to have found his groove lately, but can Courtemanche make a late push to get back in the top-eight? 7 Tim Ouellette - 332 points 8 Greg Perry - 308 points 9 Don Courtemanche - 292 points LEGENDS CARS The story in the Legends Cars looks to be all but sealed up for the top seven drivers. Jacob Burns, Isaiah Newcomb, Nicholaus Bulkeley, Richie Helger Jr., Mason Tessier, Brendan LaBelle and Josh Parsons currently hold the first seven events in the points standings and are more than comfortable. Parsons, in seventh, holds a lead of 44 points to the cutline. Chase Silvia currently leads for the final spot, over his dad, Jimmy “Pepe” Silvia by 28 points. Chase has been impressive in his first Legends Cars season with consistent runs in and around the top-10. After a nasty wreck last week, he didn’t lose a ton of points, which is a good sign for him. Kevin Davis has snuck into the 10th spot and is 36 points back in the battle for the final spot. Is a three-week stretch enough for Davis to crawl his way into it? Only time will tell. 8 Chase Silvia - 272 points 9 Jimmy Silvia - 244 points 10 Kevin Davis - 236 points All five Fast Friday divisions return to the track on Friday, August 11 for another round of racing. Racing begins at 7 p.m. each and every Friday night, there are only seven remaining for the 2023 season. SEEKONK, Mass. — The heat of the summer is here and Seekonk Speedway is ready to celebrate with a triple header of racing this weekend, August 11-13. Friday, the Fast Friday Series returns to the track, while NASCAR Saturday is back on track on Saturday and Sunday, the second and final Monster Truck show of the season invades Seekonk Speedway. Tickets for all three days are available online at SeekonkSpeedway.com and are cheaper online than they will be at the gates on race day. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets ahead to save money and skip the long lines on the day of the races. Friday night, the Fast Friday Series heats up with the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandit and Outlaws, Sport 4’s, Helger’s Pure Stocks and Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars all on track. With just three regular season races remaining until the Sunoco Drive For The Cup playoff field is set, all divisions have drivers trying to hold off others for the final spot. In the last few Friday’s, racing has been hot on the track with exciting action in the Bandolero’s showcasing winners like Ryan Vanasse Jr., Collin Vanasse, Parker Davis and Sam Macedo. In the Sport 4’s, it’s been a season of winning for Mikey LeFort and Jarrod Freitas, but names like Crystal Murray have also won and been consistent each week. In the Pure Stocks, last week it was Greg Perry returning to Victory Lane for the first time this year, cementing himself in the playoff race, although at the bottom of the top eight. Is he showing he will be a threat to win the title and come on strong late in the summer? And in the Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars, Isaiah Newcomb seems to be on a mid-season tear with multiple wins in a row. Is he now the favorite heading into the Drive For The Cup? Or will these upcoming three weeks impact who will be contenders? Saturday includes two Everett’s Auto Parts Triple Crown Series finales, for the Pro Stocks and the Late Models. The Pro Stock final four includes David Darling, who won both of the first two, Dylan Estrella, Bobby Pelland and Dick Benoit. In the Late Models, Luke LeBrun, Charlie Rose, Mark Jenison and Jacob Burns will battle for the crown. Although everyone knows Dave Darling is the Pro Stock favorite, Estrella has two wins this year, Pelland has been fast and Benoit has been a welcomed surprise at the front of the field. In the Late Models, LeBrun and Burns have shown their dominance at times, while Jenison, the defending champion, has been quiet, and Rose has one feature win. Both of these extra-distance events, set for 45 laps for the Late Models and 60 for the Pro Stocks, will be exciting to watch. Also in action on Saturday night are the Helger’s Sportsman and the Chaz Auto Body Sport Trucks. Like all other Seekonk divisions, they are closing in on the playoff battle in September. Right now, both divisions have a driver sitting in eighth less than 20 points ahead of those behind. The Sportsman and Trucks will both run for 25 laps this week. The Sunday edition of Monster Truck Madness will include Trucks like Stinger Unleashed, Storm Damage, Hurricane Force, Crushstation, LumberJack and Virginia Giant. For the second time this season, the rumble and roar of the major Monster Trucks invades the Action Track of the East! This show also includes the East Coast Towing & Recovery Spectator Drags, always exciting for the fans. Fast Friday racing begins at 7 p.m., NASCAR Saturday action begins at 6 p.m., and Monster Truck racing begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Fast Friday tickets are $10 for adults in advance or $13 at the gates on race day. NASCAR Saturday tickets are $15 in advance or $18 at the gates. Sunday Monster Truck tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the gates. Sunday’s Monster Truck show is also $15 at the gates for youth ages 6-12 and kids five and under are free. The summer is heating up as the Speedway rolls into the final few weeks of racing before the playoffs and our 2023 champions are crowned. Don’t miss it! Newcomb used a move in the final two laps to grab the lead away from two contenders who were racing for the top spot, then drove his fastest lap on the final lap to roll to another win. Nicholaus Bulkeley and Brendan LaBelle battled hard for the lead in the end, but a little bit of contact sent both of them up the track, and Newcomb right by. Bulkelely and LaBelle didn’t lose much, though - they were able to finish second and third after 25 laps. Josh Parsons and Mason Tessier finished fourth and fifth. They were followed to the finish line by Kevin Davis, Cole Robie, Richie Helger Jr., Jacob Burns and Corey Martin. The Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars will be back on the track on Friday, August 11 for another 25-lap feature.
