Seekonk Speedway is saddened to share the news that legendary short-track New England racer Carl “Bugsy” Stevens has passed away. The four-time Seekonk Speedway champion will be missed by all in the community. Driving his first race in 1957, Bugsy was born for auto racing. He rolled into the mid-1960s teaming with legendary car owner Lenny Boehler to drive the historic No. 3 “Ole Blue” machine and they had immediate success — winning championships and countless races. Stevens won titles at Seekonk Speedway, Thompson Speedway, Stafford Motor Speedway and many other tracks in New England. Not only was Stevens a Modified standout, he also competed in the NASCAR Cup Series back in 1970 - competing in three events in that season, scoring a best finish of sixth in what is now the Coca-Cola 600. Bugsy was also a competitor on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour once the modern era started in 1985, competing in three years of competition and 45 starts with multiple top-five finishes. Stevens not only drove for Boehler, but also historic car owner Joe Brady, winning championships at Westboro Speedway and Seekonk. Perhaps even more important than his driving ability, Bugsy’s smile and personality made him a fan favorite. Stevens is a member of the New England Auto Racers Hall of Fame (Class of 1998) and the Seekonk Speedway Wall of Fame. One of Seekonk’s all-time most popular drivers, Bugsy won three NASCAR National Modified championships. If there was ever a driver that could capture the eyes and hearts of the youth, Bugsy was the one.

Each year, the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Outlaws dice it out and put on a show for the fans. The 2024 season will be no different, with multiple different drivers ready to do battle - a mix of veterans and rising stars in Seekonk’s second youngest division.
When you look at the roster for the Outlaws, it’s hard to pick who will be the champion. There are various drivers who are going to be in contention right from lap one of the season - led by defending Bandit champion Parker Davis. Moving up a division, Davis may be one of the younger in the Outlaws, but proved last year he can adapt quickly. Back in the No. 14, look for Davis to be up front. Some other drivers to watch include Nick Uhrig Jr., Bryson Robidoux, Mike Hanafin and Zachary Keith. Uhrig and Hanafin are both proven winners in the Bandits, moving up to the Outlaws hoping to have similar success. They both come from families who have been to Victory Lane at Seekonk Speedway before, and are following in the footsteps looking for their own success. Robidoux and Keith both are back for another year in the Outlaws. Although both didn’t win last year, they were up front just about every week. Both of these drivers are going to contend for wins, but in the long run, should also be in contention for the title. Other names to keep an eye on include Brody Wakefield and Jordan Duquette. Wakefield has come a long way since his first laps, winning down south and showing great speed in early Seekonk practice sessions this season. Duquette is also expected to be in contention for his first career win this season. Look out for Kristina Strickland, Allyha DeSomma, Abbie Badejo, Brady Connors, Vincent Sarro, Zacarias Kelley, Nicholas Saman, Ryder Aguiar and Nathan Zimmerman. The 2024 season opens for the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Outlaws on Friday, May 24 at 7 p.m. The season includes events from May through September. The championship night for the Bandolero Outlaws will be Friday, September 27. For more information on the 2024 Bandolero Outlaw season, visit SeekonkSpeedway.com and follow the track on social media for the latest news. Seekonk Speedway’s youngest contingent of drivers are ready to do battle again in 2024. The Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandits include drivers who begin at just eight-years-old and roll through through 12, showcasing the true young talent at the Action Track of the East offers. Beginning on May 24, they will contend for wins weekly and the season-long championship. One of the favorites in the Bandits going into 2024 is Mason Silvia. Probably the most experienced in the group, and ready to challenge for their first career win. Silva made the playoffs and made some noise last year and will most likely park in Victory Lane this year at some point. Other names to look out for include Luka Dib and David Bernier. Dib is another one who has plenty of laps to his credit and a podium run in his past, and will be a major threat to win. Bernier already has a victory to his credit at a Connecticut track this season and has looked strong in pre-season practice laps driving the No. 30. The Chaber name will continue to be part of the Bandolero’s at Seekonk Speedway, as Jace Chaber follows in the footsteps of his brother to look for his first win this season. Other names to watch include Alya Martin, in her second full-time season, Kennedy Burrows, Carl Satterlund Jr., Sophia Padula, Leah Desrosiers and Joseph Satterlund. The 2024 season opens for the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandits on Friday, May 24 at 7 p.m. The season includes events from May through September. The championship night for the Bandolero Bandits will be Friday, September 27. As one of Seekonk Speedway’s most exciting divisions gets ready for 2024, the Sport 4 class of drivers looks to be stout once again. Led by veterans, the division also includes a good mix of rising talent looking to begin their racing career on Fast Friday. For the last two years, Crystal Murray has been at the top of the Sport 4 division. The two-time champion enters 2024 looking for a three-peat in the No. 38, but the task of accomplishing her goal will not be easy. Look for Murray to win often and make the playoffs, then her chase towards another title will begin. Murray will be tightly challenged by names like Tyler Duhancik, Mikey LeFort and Richie Johnson. All three of these drivers are proven race winners and one of them is a former champion. The former champ, LeFort, is back in the No. 99 again for Helger’s Racing, looking to get back to the head table. Duhancik, a driver in the Phil’s Propane stable, has struggled with mechanical gremlins and wrecks over the years, but always has speed. He hopes to put some past misfortune behind him and contend for the title in 2024. Johnson, who made the jump from the Spectator Drags last year, won a race and was around the top-five often. Johnson may be primed for a breakout season in Seekonk’s Sport 4 division. Other names to watch include Henry Lavallee, Taylor Bowser and Justin Leduc. For Lavallee, a multiple-time winner in the division, he is always up near the front when it comes time for the checkered flag. Bowser purchased the car driven by multiple-time 2023 winner Jarrod Freitas, and is primed to seek her first career win this year. Leduc went to Victory Lane last year and looks to be primed to make a run deep into the playoffs in 2024. Look out for names like Matt Pion, former champion Dave Westgate, Samantha Mattera, Daniel Hayes and Christine Cavallaro. The Sport 4 field continues to showcase some of the best racing Seekonk Speedway offers. The 2024 season opens for the Seekonk Sport 4 division on Friday, May 24 at 7 p.m. The season includes events from May through September. The championship night for the Sport 4’s will be Friday, September 27. For more information on the 2024 Sport 4 season, visit SeekonkSpeedway.com and follow the track on social media for the latest news. Many of the Fast Friday eyes will be on the Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Pure Stock division once again in 2024. Known as one of Seekonk Speedway’s most thrilling divisions to watch, the Pure Stocks dice it out weekly with a great mix of veteran and rising racing talent. Some of the veterans of the Pure Stocks include defending champion Jared Cordeira, Ethan Souza, Danny Massa and Mike Henriques. These four drivers have proven to be winners in their careers and enter the season as some of the title favorites. Cordeira had a picture perfect run to the championship last year, making it into the playoffs and rolling to the top of the field when it mattered most. Souza and Massa had arguably the best seasons out of anyone last year and had a shot at the title. Henriques has been around a long time and is a proven winner himself, looking for his first title in 2024. Although it’s unclear whether he will run full-time or not, Greg Perry is another top name to keep your eyes on. Additional names in the Pure Stocks include some rising drivers like Bobby Bettencourt III, Don Courtemanche and Rookie of the Year contender Brent Robidoux. Bettencourt put together quite the first season in the No. 21 last year, and the familiar colors are back looking to park in Victory Lane in 2024. Courtemanche has been around for a few years, and this season could be his breakout effort. Robidoux, moving up from the Bandolero Outlaw division, looks to follow in the footsteps of his father, John, as a Seekonk Pure Stock winner. Look for Michael Marcou, Emily Brightman, Matt Talbolt, Jim Reilly, Tim Ouellette and Jared Barishian to also be contenders in 2024, among others. The 2024 season opens for the Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Pure Stock division on Friday, May 24 at 7 p.m. The season includes events from May through September. The championship night for the Pure Stocks will be Friday, September 27. The 2024 Everett’s Auto Parts Triple Crown Series kicks-off this Saturday night at the Action Track of the East. With qualifying racing beginning at 6 p.m., both the Sport Trucks and Pro Stocks will go for extra-distance races in their first of three events inside the Everett’s Triple Crown.
Also on Saturday, the track celebrates all those who currently serve in the military, and all those who have been lost in service, with the annual Military Night at Seekonk Speedway. All Military personnel both past and present who attend the races on Saturday night will receive complimentary admission in the grandstands. Qualifying races begin at 6 p.m. and feature action will follow at 7 p.m. Tickets are available online today at SeekonkSpeedway.com. In the two highlight races of the night, the Chaz Auto Body Sport Trucks will run 35 laps and the Pro Stocks will ned the night with 60 circuits. The Late Models are also back for race two of their season, set for 30 laps, while the Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Sportsman will be on track for 25 laps of their own. In the Sport Trucks, Rick Martin made an early statement on opening night, picking up the victory. As the reigning champion of the division for the last two years, Martin hasn’t lost a step over the winter - but has some stout competition coming behind him. Darryl Church and Mike Duarte showed impressive speed in race one, joining Martin on the podium. Look out for Jake Vanada, Amy Arsenault, DJ Thibeault, Mike Cavallaro and others in their Triple Crown opener. The Pro Stock field chased Colbey Fournier for much of the opening race of the season. Although he won the 40-lap race to kick-off the year, he was closely challenged by Bobby Pelland, Vinnie Arrenegado and others over the distance. Arrenegado, a two-time and defending Seekonk Late Model champion, was impressive in his Pro Stock debut, and what better way for him to break into Victory Lane than the first Triple Crown event? Names like Dick Benoit, Mark Jenison, Dylan Estrella and others are ready to do battle for 60 laps on Saturday night. Richie Murray dominated the second half of the opening race of the Late Model season, besting names like Chase Belcher, Arrenegado and Connor Souza to score the win in race one. He will be back to challenge others to try and make it two in a row - but additional names like Luke Lebrun, Charlie Rose and Mark Jenison will do everything they can to park their own car in Victory Lane after 30 laps. The Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Sportsman division had a wild lap one, and a finish that saw part-time competitor Josh Hedges pick up the win. Former Fast Friday driver Tyler Almeida posted his best career finish in the opener - a second - while Jeremy Lambert made his Sportsman debut worth it, finishing on the podium. Looking to rebound, defending champion Steve Axon and 2023 dominator Adam Petty will both be coming back from the lap one wreck lookin to pounce. NASCAR Saturday grandstand gates will open at 4:30 p.m. for advanced ticket holders and 5 p.m. for those who purchase tickets at the track on race day. The pit area opens at 2 p.m. for race teams and practice begins at 4 p.m. Fans can purchase their tickets or pit passes online now at SeekonkSpeedway.com. The Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars enter the 2024 season with another impressive list of talent ready to compete each week on Fast Friday. Most weeks, there are at least a dozen drivers you could see competing for the win in the final laps. This year is expected to be no different.
Defending Legends Cars champion Jacob “Rowdy” Burns is back in the Nick Lascuola Racing No. 13, looking to pounce and go for back-to-back titles. Between the Legends Cars and the NASCAR Saturday Late Models, Burns looks to be a major threat on both of Seekonk Speedway’s racing nights in 2024. He’s joined in the Legends Cars by a strong group of drivers: Brenden LaBelle, Richie Helger Jr., Josh Parsons, Mason Tessier, Chase Silvia, Jase Mongeon and others. All of the drivers mentioned are capable of winning races and contend deep into the playoffs. LaBelle dominated the early stretch of last season and enters this year looking to make the title run. Helger, a former Bandolero champion, has come into his own nicely in the Legends Cars, marking his first career win last year. Parsons is a Seekonk veteran with multiple wins, along with Tessier, a former Everett’s Auto Parts Triple Crown champion. Silvia and Mongeon are two of the younger contenders in the division, but expected to have winning speed. Fans should also keep their eyes on names like Ryan Vanasse Jr., a dominator of the Bandolero division last year moving up to Legends Cars, his cousin, Collin Vanasse, the defending Bandolero Outlaw champion, and Jaden Hamilton, returning for another year. The full Legends Cars roster, available online, is stacked with talent. The 2024 season opens for the Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars division on Friday, May 24 at 7 p.m. The season includes events from May through September. The championship night for the Legends Cars will be Friday, September 27. For more information on the 2024 Legends Cars season, visit SeekonkSpeedway.com and follow the track on social media for the latest news.
